Anyone know about satellite dishes here?
I'm in Alicante and currently have an 80 cm dish. Can anyone give me a rough idea what else I would be able to receive if I increased to a 1.2 metre with a good LNB. Also anyone know a good place to pick one up and an approx cost.

Apparently he never has any trouble with Channel 4 disappearing at 6pm or in bad weather... but then you should see the dish he has in his back garden...

Probably do need something like Jodrell Bank down there.
I know they struggle with 2.4 dishes in Benidorm area to get the full sky range plus bbc,itv etc.
Some of them even add petal extensions to make them even bigger.
However most of the other satellites, free view etc.are no problem on a smaller dish.

I dont know what you receive already, so I cant say what more you would get, but we get all SKY
BBC1 starts to go late evening
BBC2 goes about 5-6pm
ITV goes late evening
Channel 4 comes and goes throughout the day
One of the SKY sports channels goes early evening
We have at least 400 channels of crap and a handful of decent ones

someone called for me.......sorry just got in from a busy 2 days of work....
on an 80cm dish you will get most of the free channels on this page from eurobird 1 with no troubles.
http://www.flysat.com/tv-uk.php
you will not get astra2d channels.
you may get one or two channels from astra 2a and b, but only at certain times of the day....
there is not much difference in the reception of channels between a 80cm and 1,2m dish....they may keep the cannels on astra 2a and b for a few hours more thats it..
not quite....im younger and better looking than the "bloke" in the pic!!
i hire it out to nasa and seti when i am not watching QI.

Re: Anyone know about satellite dishes here?
Most top four Prem football shown on sky sports is shown free on Spanish Freeview I saw the Manu-Liverpool game today. I have 80cm Dish live about 135 K from Barcelona and have never missed a channel all crystal clear. Apart from when my Thompson HD box had to have its PSU board replaced a common fault. But now PACE have brought out their new HD sky box just will wait to iron out the bugs before getting one. At the end of September there is a new sky EPG or electronic programme guide. A lot of the Failed recording bugs have been solved which should make for a better viewing experience. Have a look at it on the link below.

this site tells you what satellite channels are showing football...
http://liveonsat.com/today.php
look for teledeporte or TVE2 (or La 2) for the UK matches... and these can be shown on spansih analogue and on TDT.
thanks!!
i think i ages 50 years when i saw how your dish was installed!!!!
yup - from the initial reports there are a few bugs with some of the components, and one scarey comment for us in spain was "the box does run at a very hot temp" - may have to strat to install a few more PC type fans on them for use in spain!!
saw a video of the new EPG operating, and it does look good, more easy on the eye. they really have listened to a lot of commnets from their customers about how they can improve the EPG.
only newer HD boxes will get them. standard and sky+ will not get the new EPG due to the lack of onboard memory inthe receivers. this lack of memory in the older sky receivers is why sky are limiting the number of new channels in their EPG - apparently the older receivers were designed for something like 300 channels only....not the number that are there now

Wonder if you could advise when you have a free mo.
I am about 40km North of you with a 1.9 dish and a sky box.
If I want the Eurobird FTA channels do I need a twin lnb on the same dish plus a seperate digi box?
If so could you advise which box?
Many Thanks.....

Re: Anyone know about satellite dishes here?
your 1.8m dish wil be picking up eurobird already...unless it is really really badly installed....i get many of the eurobirds on my 80cm dish
eurobird1, astra 2,a,b,c,and d are all located at 28.2 to 28.5 degrees east of south. as they are so close together your dish and sky receiver should be easily picking them up already -
some FTA channels on eurobird...
Flava Bliss Scuzz Flaunt True Movies True Movies 2 PopGirl +1 Tiny Pop NME TV Pop! Tiny Pop +1 Kix! The Vault Anime Central
PopGirl Chart Show TV
you will only need a second digibox if you want to watch different satellite chanensl in another room.
you need a twin for two basic sky digiboxes (one output for each digiboix), or for a sky+ (both outputs for one digibox)
for options and the differences between freeview, freesat, freesatfromksy and Sky subscription see http://www.satandpcguy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=35
by the way noone makes a 1.9m dish - infact the true measuement is 1.85m - some installers just say 1.9m to make the dish sound bigger....i use 1.8m as that is what it says on all the documentation and invoices!!

Re: Anyone know about satellite dishes here?
Does that mean I got to reprogramme the sky box every time I want to see the Eurobird channels?
If so, thats why I wondered about a twin lnb and seperate box, as I dont think they cost a fortune.

Re: Anyone know about satellite dishes here?
I was thinking more of self abuse during the hotbird 10 min free to encryption porn channels
rather than sat boxes.
