Any satellite tv experts out there?
Can anyone help with these problems -
1. Sat tv has the sound out of synch with the picture.
2. Bottom half of the picture suddenly goes pixelated for a couple of minutes, then corrects itself.
Could it be an alignment problem?
Cheers.

Short bursts of pixalation may be a result of a number of things. It could be the weather at the moment causing signal problems. It may help if you can say if it happens on all channels...try Sky News which is a very strong signal and see what happens....
If just the bottom half of the screen is pixelating even on Sky News it could be the start of your box going on its way out. I have had a number of Grundig boxes failing over the past few months....no real common faults but general "weird" behaviour indicating power and tuner problems.

Re: Any satellite tv experts out there?
Sorry to hijack this, but I also need satelite tv expert advice.
We have just bought a new holiday home in Algorfa. We bought from a German couple, who kindly left all their tv equipment, including satalite tv. Unfortunately its german, but it's free. Is there anyway that we can obtain UK freeview from this system?
As we are holidayers we don't really want to pay a monthly subscription.
Thanks in advance.

If it was a german system, it is probably looking at Astra 1 and is using a small (80cm) dish. The first problem is that the dish size for BBC and ITV in spain is way too small...check you local paper for more info on suppliers but the normal minimum size required for bbc and itv should be 1.8m (yes meters)!
Secondly the dish is looking at the wrong satellite for the UK satellite broadcasts. It is likely to be looking at Astra 1 which is at 19.2 degrees, whereas the UK systems is broadcast from Astra 2 located at 28.2-5 degrees.
Yor could reposition the dish to the correct satellite, but all you would receive are the "naff" free channels (ie lots of shopping channels) but there are oone or two gems out there....
On a side note "the UK freeview" system is the name of the system where you can receive digital tv via your television aerial, whos signals do not reach spain. "Free To Air (FTA)" are signals that are free from encryption and can be view by anyone with a dish and receiver (like BBC, ITV Sky News!). "Free To View (FTV)" are signals that are free and can be view by anyone with a dish and receiver but are encrypted so require a viewing card to unencrypt (like Channel FIVE).
Hope this helps.

Thanks satandpcguy,
Looks as though i'm talking about the FTA.
I will have a play with the system when I am next over.

Looking on the internet, I have discovered that FREESAT is to be launched next month (Mar 2008). It is a partnership between BBC and ITV; and will include most of their channels.
Looks like I will wait till then and see how much and who can install it.

I am sure this has been covered or at least mentioned on these forums before but here goes....
You will still need a big dish to receive the BBC and ITV channels here in Spain. Nothing is changing with the introduction of Freesat.
In simple terms Freesat is the name of the EPG (programme Guide) which can only be accessed on Freesat receivers, just like (in fact from what i have seen of it very VERY like) the Sky EPG that can only be accessed by Sky receivers. When you select a BBC channel the receiver will still look for the signal on Astra 2D, the weak signal satellite that carries those channels and that you need a big dish for.
Yes Freesat will be available quite easily her in Spain. But, bearing in mind that Freesat is only the EPG, the signal that carries the information for the EPG will be available on an 80cm dish. But the channels that the EPG points to will remain as they are today (but with a few exceptions like possibly Channel 4!)
The quick and simple way to show what you will get with Freesat is to take your Sky viewing card out of your current set up. What you have then is Freesat!!!!
Hope this helps.
