Default Any information on sending my 15 month old daughter to Guarderia (Nursery) in Spain

Hello

My partner and I have just moved to Spain (from the UK) to help my Father (non-resident but Spanish home owner) and will be here until the end of Sept 2016.

There are various facets to this post any information on any part is greatfully received.

Question (1) I understand it because I am not paying into the Spanish Tax system I am not eligible for state funded nursery, correct?

Question (2) Can I send my daughter to a state guarderia if I pay more than the subsidised amount or would I have to send her to a private guarderia?

Question (3) Will the following documents be sufficient to get my daughter in either a state or private guarderia;

- Passport (mine and hers)
- NIE
- Spanish Bank Account
- Escrtiura (house deeds) / rental agreement
- Signing on with the local town hall as resident in the village

Question (4) Depending on the answers to the above questions does anyone have any reccomendations/knowledge about guarderias around Competa, Malaga, Spain.

New to the forum (be gentle)

Thanks in advance Rio

1. Correct
2. It would have to be a private nursery
3. Yes that should be fine
4. No sorry!

There are more private nurseries than state nurseries across Spain. A lot of the time it is very difficult to get into a state nursery and they are means tested, you need to prove your income and where you live etc

By the way, Spanish nurseries are very different to UK ones. There are on average 8 children to each worker (3 to 1 ratio in the UK) and unfortunately some kids are left to cry and parents arent told etc. My eldest lasted 3 days at his nursery and my youngest will be starting next year at 2.5 because we did not want to put her in before she could talk and tell us what was going on!

Remember schools actually start at 2 or 3 years old in Spain although they are optional until the child is 6

Just one additional point; you shouldn't really be "Signing on with the local town hall as resident in the village" as you're not officially (permanently) resident there.

To sign on the padron, you need to be permanently resident here - this usually means having the green form/card also known by some as a 'residencia'.
