They come from under the bottom of the architraves on the inside doors. I have tried allsorts to stop them OH has even siliconed round the bottom of the architraves but to no avail. The only thing that kills them is the spray cans, but that is only when they are running round the floor.

Does anyone know of anything to use that can kill the nests or at least make them not want to come out of their nests and invade my house?

The ants are so much smaller here though so sealing up everywhere is so difficult. We have used so much silicone in this house that I really wish that we had bought shares in the factory that produces it.

Can you remove the architraves? Then seal behind them using a filler rather than silicone?

As I say, the little sods usually come in for a reason, No nest will waste resources sending in workers to search with no returns.

Food hygiene is vital to discourage them. When we get a problem, I can always trace it back to something I have spilled and failed to clean up properly.

A blast of ant spray for indoors over the point of entry eg thru an open window, and the problem is solved till the next time I forget.

Also, there's a puma tile adhesive that makes a great filler. It's grey or white and comes as a dry powder in 1 kilo sacks. I use that all the time. It fills well, sands down easily, is strong and flexible and will survive outside undamaged, even without being painted over. LOADS cheaper than silicone.

You always get a few scouts. If they are coming thru en mass anywhere like you say, I just spray and wipe over the area. That usually discourages them!
