Another internet satelite question

Hi,
I will be required for my work a reliable and constant internet connection as most of the time I need to use Skype. We leave in the campo east of Sevilla and we already have satellite internet connection that we are very happy but it seems now and then Skype is not constant. Any other option of internet provider that can assure Skype without cable adsl connection?

We have microwave internet, that is, a small dish about the size of a dinner plate aimed at a mountaintop some kilometres away. Many people confuse this sort of internet connectivity with satellite, the difference is true satellite internet is quite expensive, microwave is on a par with normal telephone line prices.

We've found that Skype can be trouble free or troublesome, depends on what time of the month it is:rofl: seriously, one connection can be great, 30 minutes later, bad connection, pic breakup bad sound etc etc, no rhyme no reason for it.

The connection is good enough for my wife to watch streaming tv on her laptop or tablet though so the connection is usually no problem, it just seems to be Skype reception in our area.

Satellite connections have long "latency". It takes a second or two for the signals to reach the satellite 20000Km over the equator (and back). I'm surprised if you aren't experiencing (often frustrating) delays when conversing to others over that system. Or is that the problem you're having?

Skype is far from "perfect" and is well known to be susceptible to internet glitches. If you can get a reliable WiMax signal in your area, your problems should diminish. Check if there is a WiMax provider near you.

I have a similar system here in the Valenciano region.
I can normally get by ok, but 'er indoors is not a happy bunny at all, if as is often the case she cannot get reliable streaming from her home country.

However just recently it's gone downhill big time and been virtually unusable at all for the past few days which leads me towards considering a satellite system.

As mentioned such systems are somewhat expensive, whereas the main saving grace with my present system is that I can have it de-activated and so costs me virtually nothing when I spend long periods outside of Spain.

Bri and Katee, or any others, I live out in the campo near Jaen and I'm looking to get internet there, but without a landline. The satellite system or microwave internet seems just the thing, but which company are you using?
Thanks.
