Another casulty of brexit?
 

Well thats annoying.

Im listening to radio 1 on an app called simple radio.

And they are playing an advert - every half hour or so? - saying that as of the 20th of march, in 9 days, they will only be broadcasting on bbc sounds.

I will have to put a uk vpn on my phone.

You may still be able to listen here. Someone gave me this site a few yrs ago, you can listen to almost every radio station in the world.

I listen to Radio 1 via BBC Sounds on my phone, there's no need for VPN :thumbsup:

Its nothing to do with brexit, the BBC have been planning to move to a paid or premium platform for ages (no young people listen to radio or watch normal TV) So they decided to do this.

Its not new I think the thing was touted about 3 years ago.

Although technically speaking legally you should not be receiving BBC here in Spain anyway as its tied to the UK only.
But the internet has unfortunately made the world smaller.
Oh I remember the days when all you could get was the BBC World Service (and I aint that old) :)

There's nothing illegal about listening to BBC radio on the Internet while abroad, the BBC decided to make it available to everyone in the first place. This is different to TV.

It might still be available on Radioplayer (unless there's advertising there saying they're pulling the plug too).

I also listen via "Radio Garden" there are hundreds of radio stations to listen to world wide.

It might not be everybody's choice, but we have 2 internet radios in the house; perfect solution. All you pay is for the cost of purchasing the radio.

Amazing how easy it is now to listen. i remeber struggling with my Soviet receiver to pick up BBC World service on Short Wave.

Yes, my radio app is also putting out a message every hour. So looks like BBC Sounds or nothing - a shame because sometimes I like to be naughty and listen to other radio stations without a BBC logo.

I listen to BBC Radio4, BBC Radio 5 live sport, where I get all the football commentary, and BBC world service, all on my Internet radio via wifi. Never had any warning about it being discontinued. Is it only BBC radio 1? could be a music rights issue. All the BBC local radio stations are available, except that they block the football commentary ( for rights issues). I did try listening to a local radio station I listened to about 40 years ago before moving to Scotland. It seems they are still looking for the missing cat, asking about the silliest thing you ever did, and saying that Mrs Smith is needing a lift to the hospital tomorrow.

The best Internet Radio solution is an Amazon "smart speaker" TuneIn can be set as the default radio app and you just ask it to play the station you want.

BBC sounds will work anywhere with a couple of restrictions, live concerts and some classical music because of copyright. No need to use a VPN just install the BBC Sounds app on tablet/phone/computer and away you go. No real need to buy internet radios et al

I bought my internet radio, because I seem to be one of the few people left in the world who does not have a mobile phone "welded" to their hand. I also leave mine at home when I go out, except in the car for emergency/breakdown purposes. But you are quite right about the app.

Looks like BBC radio has disappeared from my radio app today so now BBC Sounds is the only option to listen to BBC radio.
