Am I Mad?
I'm thoroughly cheesed off with life in the UK. I'm single (recently divorced) with no ties and I'm thinking of packing the UK and moving to Spain to start another life.
I'm an IT expert (well, that's what they pay me for) and I'm thinking of moving to som, ewhere with a fairly large ex-pat community and setting up as a computer consultant. I intend to offer the full range of services from fault-fixing, installation, networks, hardware etc ect. What do you think my chances of making a go of it are? I'm not looking to build a massive business - just make enough money to keep my head above water and still have enough time to go fishing. Any of you good people reckon there's enough business out there (servicing solely the ex-pat community) to make a living? All comments gratefully recieved. Regards Joe |

http://www.surinenglish.com/index.php The couple that had websites are poorly designed and full of errors so they don't worry me. So even though there's some competition I'm fairly sure I could carve myself a little niche somewhere in the Malaga region. Have to see how the first few months of this year goes and then decide to wander over for a couple of months and see if I can drum up some custom... Cheers Joe |

Cheers Joe Along this line could you email every single English related company where you'd like to go and offer the same? It may not be up your street but you could at least be assured of work and wages for a few months till you know exactly what's happening and then be able to go out on your own. Just a thought. |

Regards Joe A friend of mine is in IT (an American) here in Malaga. He had plenty of work and has now gone more into Multimedia as this is the line he wanted to be in, and he travels quite a bit to France etc. He didn't have any problems and in fact he had too much work in the areas you seem to specialise in. Like anything its how you sell yourself. Competition should never be a problem because if you show you offer a higher standard of service, market yourself properly and build yourself up a good reputation you shouldn't have any problems. There are loads of dentists, real estate agents, etc doesn't mean that they are all good. Rent out your house for the time being, rent somewhere more inland which is usually cheaper and get out foot slogging. Usually when I see people advertise in the Sur I think they are desperate for work and therefore maybe not so good.......thats just my personal opinion as most people who I know are doing well don't advertise there..... Best of luck anyway. |
