Default Air Europa and Iberia Fight Back Against AVE Success

seems there's going to be a lot more offers for those wanting to travel to or via Madrid... In one sense good, but it's not going to help the pollution levels..

The reason that these airlines have decided to offer this service once more is thought to be because of the recuperation of the tourism sector on a national basis in particular. There is now huge demand to travel to Madrid for the purpose of catching a connecting flight to another destination.

Interesting article, but I wonder why the photo shows a plane flying over Shell Centre and the London Eye!

That's almost up to the DM standards of journalism!

How do flights vs AVE compare on travel times for someone living in the city suburbs whishing to visit the other city's centre in either direction?

Surely that would depend on where the suburb was? Some would be closer to the airport, others closer to the main train station.
Main thing I dislike about the "cheap" flights is you often have to be at the airport at 6 or 7 in the morning, and that often means an expensive taxi ride thus negating at a stroke the advantage of the cheapness of the flight ticket. Plus the check-in and waiting period is normally a lot longer.
