hi
we are looking to move to spain next year me my husband and my daughter
my daughter runs a bar here in the uk so we were looking to buy a bar in majorca and running it between us
we dont expect to make lots of money just enough to have a normal life but in a better country

can anyone give us some possitive advise

I'm very sorry but I cannot give you any positive advice at all.

I think you will find that most people with any experience of running a business in Spain will advise you not to even consider it.

Let's see what other members think.

I agree with Fred, it is a case of working all hours, the Spanish bars seem never to close, Personaly wouldnt touch a bar with a barge pole. So many for sale in all the papers, says it all really.

You have to treat running a bar in Spain as an expensive hobby :thumbdown: so you wont make enough to have a normal life!

99.9% go bust in the first 2 years , if you have been very successful in running a business in the UK you stand a small chance of making it work , if you have no experience you have no chance.
Negative but realistic.

It can be done and some do make it a success. Be aware trade in majorca is very seasonal and it will cost more to buy / rent than on the mainland.

I would suggest you try a 2- 3 month working holiday to test the water.

Scary assuming they taken in the last few weeks ,on the plus side there will be a lot more drunken lager louts coming to Spain:eek::rofl:

It's not very typical though, a pint will normally set you back 3 euros at a Spanish place, more if its one of the more popular British bars that are run by the mafia and drug cartels in Fuengirola, I think its about 5 euros at the London pub.

There are hundreds of British bars on that stretch which look identical with silly names which you only ever find in British places outside of Britain - why is that? :rofl:

So guess some of them have to attract the punters some how

Well yes as long as you dont mind sitting on a plastic chair next to a load of Brits in their 50s and 60s smoking as if they want to drop dead tomorrow :rofl:

If you want to get drunk cheaply why not buy a 1 litre bottle of San Miguel for 1 euro from the supermarket? Even cheaper than 1 euro a pint. There have to be other things in consideration surely?

I don't drink beer but I can see a lot of people being drawn towards those bars. If they are on holiday they don't want to stop in every night.

Maybe smoky and plastic chairs but so are the spanish bars at 3 euro a pint.
