I see that Lord Sugar is promoting one of the new boxes on Twitter. He says that it is not his company but he seems to be very keen on it.

Re: advice please re UK tv in Spain
He says "Brits in Spain SKY TV will be gone Oct."...
edit: just seen he changed this to "Brits in S Spain SKY TV will be gone Oct" - S S apin - southern Spain?
So does he know something about the new satellite reception in Spain before it is launched???
Does he know something about the current satellites like 2F which, is being received in some areas in Spain on a 1m dish? Does he know this going to change as well??
Does he know something about the new satellites Pan European beam not really Pan European and the official footprints from SES showing the predicted Pan European reception over Europe of these Pan European beams all wrong???
And does he know something about those Sky TV channels not on Astra satellite but on the Eutelsat which will not be affected by the Astra satellite change???
And weird when he says you will lose Sky TV, that the only Sky channels offered on this service are Sky News and Challenge! So no point in getting this service if you want Sky channels as it only carries 2 Sky channels!!
Maybe it is something to do with Sky buying Amstrad and his set top box business off him a few years ago...
Just wondering......

OK so there has been a problem at Baikonur resulting in the loss of 3 GPS satellites. This may well mean a lengthy delay in the SES satellite launch.
But the current satellite is still in place, still working and there should be no loss in the services currently being transmitted.

Russian TV has talk of two to three months before the toxic debris is cleared from the site, and launches can continue.
So how desperate are SES to get 2E up and running, as they can always move to Arianne for a launch, or wait for Baikonur to become a go again...if they want to use it considering its failure...so a lauhc of Sept / Oct with operational data Nov / Dec....just in time for loss of xmas telly!!! :-)

Re: advice please re UK tv in Spain
You know, considering that there's no data to confirm or deny that UK satellite signals will be "lost" (and frankly they won't be "lost", only harder to receive in the worst case), I have the give "the guy" a lot of credit.
As a vendor of satellite solutions, he could easily be leveraging all of your fears, selling ridiculously over-priced and highly profitable "solutions" to a problem that doesn't yet exist, and could very well never exist. But instead, he just keeps telling you the truth: Wait and see. How much more respectable can you get?
But despite how many times he says it, the threads and posts confidently claiming we will "lose" UK tv just keep coming ad-nauseum (and from many who have a vested interest in offering you a "solution"), despite no credible evidence to back it up.
The advice is clear and rational: Wait and see. If it goes away, I doubt you'll starve or fail to pay your rent. But no doubt there will be a solution right around the corner... Question is, how gullible are you? Prepare yourself for a thousand expensive, crap solutions, and 3 good ones.

Agreed.
A classic example of how it is possible for a member who has obvious commercial interests in a subject to be able to contribute massive amounts of totally unbiased information about that subject and never break the site advertising rules.
The forum does allow links in a signature to a commercial website and I have to say they his site has a huge amount of information on it.
Well worth a look.

So let me get this right the fact that the Russian rocket has crashed has meant a delay in getting the pan european system up and running this summer? How?

Re: advice please re UK tv in Spain
That's about a 2-3 month delay for all launches at that site, they say.

Re: advice please re UK tv in Spain
Because the Astra 2E satellite (with UK and Pan European beams for UK TV) was next to be launched at that site, and before they start launches again they have to make sure the rocket is working and any faults with it, based on what they find went wrong from the failed rocket, are identified and resolved. They have top clear up all the toxic debris from the area, and make sure the require launch pads are not damaged.
