advice on moving pets and TV

We are hoping to move to spain this year, need advice on how I can transport my elderly dog, and whether rented places will allow pets until we find somewhere to buy.
Also hubby wants to know if his UK TV will work in spain or not :unsure:

Re: advice on moving pets and TV

We have been here 12 months now and came out with a 17 yr old dog and one that was 6. Not wanting to distress them by having a carrier or by flying them out we drove down with them. We allowed 3 days at a gentle pace so we could stop every few hours to let them out, we got a little gas cooker so we could have drinks without locking them in while we went to get a drink. The French motel chains are pet friendly and most will allow pets at a small surcharge, we used the B&B motel chain and could not fault them. He is now 18 and arrived no worse for his travels.

As for renting it all depends on the landlord. Most will allow pets but it is always worth checking before hand, if the house you view says no there will be plenty more that says yes.

We brought our UK tv out have had no problems so it should OK.

Hope this helps and good luck with any move.

All UK TVs will work in Spain.

UK TVs in Spain used to have sound issues, as the SPanish analogue TV service used different sound to the UK.
But the switch to digital (Spain is way ahead of the UK!) means this is no longer an issue, as digital TV is a Europewide (and world wide?) standard.
So, if you have TV with a built in digital terrestrial tuner (like a Freeview tuner), then a few playing around with the country settings and all should be OK.
But you will not get Freeview in Spain as Freeview is the UK ONLY TV service. A Freeview tuner in SPain will, if connected to a TV Aeria in Spain, will only get SPanish Channels...but most of the tim if those Spansh channels are showing UK / USA imports, 99.9% of the time you can change the soundtrack from the dubbed Spanish to the original English.

By pressing the audio button on the remote and changing whee it says channel off the spa to whatever it says is available, once you do this, it will be in English on the channel when it is available, and there is a lot available :)

As Concierges for the Spanish section of BE we would like to say hello and welcome.

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderadors for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.

Please let us know if you need any further help.
