Default Accountant or tax administrator

Can anyone recommend a cheap and cheerful accountant/tax administrator?

I'm just ticking off my admin duties one by one - got my residencia, new driving licence, moved my belongings from the UK etc and now the next thing on my things to do list is to register with the Spanish tax authorities and then file a tax return when i have to. I don't think mine is a complicated situation - I'm not working in Spain and all of my income is from savings/investments/pensions from the UK and I could probably do it myself in the years to come but I would welcome some help and advice in the first few years.

Thanks in advance.

I am assuming that you mean your tax for 2023 in which case you have a whole year before you need to have done it. You will as you say need an accountant to do it for you especially the first one. It is much more complicated than the uk one although there is a sytem called PADRE which automatically goes through with you but again, if you dont speak Spanish, its not advisable to working through a form where you dont understand what it says. I just checked out the CAB site where it takes you through the stages but has mistakes. Expect to pay between 50- 100 euros for it. You will also need to do a modelo 720 ( if you have investments or assets outside spain) and again you will need help.

Thanks. Yes I do mean for 2023 - I know I have a long time to submit it (I think June 2024) but I'm not sure if I need to register first eg within x months of becoming tax resident. I speak spanish to a basic level but I will need an accountant at least at the start. Do you know anybody who is used to dealing with Brits?

You don't need to register just make a declaration next year. There are plenty of firms offering this online. Where you live locally will be some too. Tell us where you are and maybe there is a member who can recommend a local gestor

Thanks. I am resident in Madrid but I have just bought a house in Pego. I will continue to be resident in Madrid but I have found advisers in Madrid to be expensive and also not that used to dealing with Brits and the specific issues that we sometimes face so I would prefer using someone that has alot of experience with people who have moved from the UK (funny tax year and currency exchange issues etc).

You dont have till June 24 as thats the end date for submission.
On the 30th June the tax owed will be automatically taken from your Spanish bank account.
Ours are done and dusted ready for filling in march each year and we pay €100
I could do it myself but my income varies so I let a local company do it.

You will also have to file a 720 for all assets over €50,000 in each class.
If possible also get yourself the NT tax code from the Uk so you only pay here (thats dependant o you not owning property or renting out in the Uk)
Get a local gestor or accountant (we use the one attached to the solicitor we use and they take all the hassle.
You will in most cases pay more tax here than you would have in the Uk as premium bond winnings etc are taxed here..

My earnings (from pension etc) in 2022 were approx €17500 and would have paid around €2000 in tax had I filed as an individual, but because my wife has no income we filled together and the tax bill was just over €1200.

In the Uk it would have been around £600..
