accomodating visitors
We've got family visiting later in the year and the eldest grandson is now of an age and size where he needs a proper bed or sleeping arrangement in our spare room which currently has none.
We've considered buying a new matress on which he could sleep and which we could then use to replace our own one on our bed and dispose of the old one when they leave. Looking at prices at one local outlet however there were prices between 800 and 1200 euros! I was quite shocked at the prices although it is sometime since we've bought one and even then it was part of a bed, side cupboards, dressing table package.
A alternative would be a put-you-up folding bed to use as a temporary solution but I don't know if they can be hired and we don't really want to have to store it in the house when it's not needed.
So, advice please with any suggestions as to a solution to our dilemma also somewhere on the Costa Blanca North where a matress can be obtained at a more reasonable cost.
I'm sure this is something faced by many living here and having friends family over.
What have you done?
Thanks.

What about a z bed, which folds up and has a cover , so it can sit in the corner when not in use.
We also have a bed settee, from which a bed pulls out from underneath as well.
Also a chair bed, and fold up beds which look like big footstools with covers when not in use in our bedroom/ office, so dual purpose.

Have you considered the bed specialist on the N332 adjacent to the petrol station at the northern entry to Calpe? Alternatively, try Michaels used and new bed shops in Javea?

Thanks very much for the responses and the links/advice.
Only tried one outlet, The Bed Centre on the coast road between Moraira and Calpe. Quite a shock as I'd forgotten or didn't appreciate how much matresses can cost. I know, like with most things, you get what you pay for, but 1200 plus for one seems a lot, to me anyway!
Thanks again.

I know it was back in December 2012 but I bought two brand new king sized double mattresses from Calpe for €855. Delivery free.

I have just purchased a bed in the uk from a local family business. Great service etc. They have an outlet in Spain so may be worth a try if not too far away.

If it is only for occasional use, you might consider a second hand bed? Perhaps a sofa bed would be suitable?

Don't forget Ikea if you're thinking of mattresses - wide range of prices and therefore probably varying quality as well but depends on how much it'll be used.

If not mentioned already, buy a camping air bed/mattress.
Perfect for occasional use and not too comfortable, meaning that the visitors won't overstay, lol.
We have family visiting at the moment. They are staying in a hotel. IMO the way it should be. Their holidays and not mine. I'm not a tour guide and I definitely don't provide accommodation.

As for your suggestion, where would I get one of these - Amazon perhaps?
Thanks again.

Re: accomodating visitors
A bit harsh
Family always stay with us, and they help out, but I think others staying in a hotel is a good idea.
With those who are not family, It's exhausting, having to think of meals and places to take them, especially when it's boiling hot. They seem to be much hungrier than normal, always looking for snacks
You don't have time to clean the house, and you can't relax and be yourself, wear old clothes and slob about.
They don't always take the hint in the supermarket either, when you spend loads getting their favourite cereals, and food you don't eat or like, just for them, or filling your car up .
Then, when they go there's mountains of washing, and a cupboard full of remains of food and drink you don't want
As they say" it's nice to see them, and it's nice to see them go back."
