Default 62 yr old Grandmother jailed for illegal build

She would rather go to jail than demolish the house and leave family without a roof over their heads .............

That's a shocker.

No doubt but for massive publicity to embarrass the govt she would still be behind bars.

As I understand it they're still throwing folk out onto the streets who can't keep up their mortgage payments to the banks.

The banks have always come first with this govt, people don't matter at all.

They remove the people from the house if they have seriously defaulted on their mortgage but there are large blocks of flats that they are then housed in but my understanding is that this is rarely in their own town.

Unfortunately these blocks of flats can house families who have fallen on hard times alongside druggies, alcoholics and thieves so it can be very difficult for them.

This is a house that was illegally built on "conserved" land though, apparently in full knowledge.

Thats why I was wondering if after all this they will still require the demolition

It would seem she is now going to comply with the demolition order?http://elpais.com/elpais/2015/08/28/inenglish/1440758826_121430.html

Why has her age and the fact she's a granny got anything to do with it? 62 ain't old.
She knew what she was doing and age is no excuse- daft mare.

Thats the newspaper headline, nothing to do with me

I'm sure being the main wage earner and put in prison, having a disabled daughter and three underage children put out on the streets might have something to do with it though

Also a quote from bob22's link

"The woman, who is the main wage earner in the family, had refused to tear down an illegal extension to her house, as authorities requested, alleging she had no place else to go. Her family has owned the land since before the area was declared a protected natural park"

I would agree that the headline in reality has nothing to do with the circumstances and yes not elderly. However it seems it has been an extension they took exception to. Yes again agreed she tried it on and lost but given her circumstances if as said I can see why she tried and obviously hoped for leniancy which she got re her sentence but not for the property.

Apparently Podemos took up her case and were making a big political football of it right across the country, quite rightly IMO.

Obviously Rajoy got to thinking it was going to cost him dear at polling time and so made a big public spectacle of pardoning her.
