I would say that for 99% of British electorate, their freedom of movement throughout EU isn't a live issue as it doesn't affect their lives, which at most means two weeks a year in the sun. What does concern them is level of immigration on their doorstep, both EU and non-EU. Granted that Brexit has very little effect on the latter, but one of the highest leave votes was in areas with high EU immigration, such as Lincolnshire and many coastal urban areas. Also people used the referendum as a protest vote against mass immigration and the metropolitan, especially London, elite.

I have met quite a few UK nationals living in Spain on low incomes over the years - most are long gone now.

Ironically, in the post Brexit world, those on low incomes will no longer be able to move to Spain but the London metropolitan elite can do so with relative ease, either via a golden visa or a non lucrative visa. Some have even managed to buy Cypriot passports.

It looks like now Brexit has happened the right wing media who whipped up the leave vote through a constant stream of immigration stories have moved on to mocking the EU and Brussels , so I guess no one really cares about immigration now that their floating-anger can focus on something else. As long as they are led to believe that their lack of happiness is down to the actions of others it will continue for eternity.

This is not a thread about how people voted. Please respect the OP and discuss his situation.

Good afternoon Mathew,i arrived here in September 2020 and live in rincon de la Victoria and so know exactly what you are experiencing

Firstly you need to see what rules you need to abide by ! There are the rules Pre 31 dec 2020 and the rules after and the government Living in Spain website has updated information

The other good website is the Citizen advice Spain website

So perhaps the best place to start is where you want to live -as my Spaish wife says "visting a place and living there are two different things"and also to see the areas where your skills are best used Perhaps come over when covid permits and spend some time getting to know the area .Where we are is very convenient for Malaga and theres plenty to keep you fully occupied outside work
Can you speak spanish?
What do you like do in leisure time ?
family ?-schools etc
Do you drive?Yes there is the issues of driving licences ec
You will need to register when you decide where to live at town hall for the patron ,later apply for your NIE and then for the TIE
Bank wise -i would suggest Sabatell. As they have English translation on their website ,also they offer (at the moment )free banking if you take out private medical insurance (required for TIE later ) and they have an arrangement with TSB "Dear customer,

In view of the uncertainty generated by Brexit, we would like to inform you that Banco Sabadell Group provides services in the United Kingdom through a Sabadell Spain operational branch and its subsidiary, TSB, which is a domestic British bank.

In order to be prepared for any situation, Banco Sabadell has requested authorisation from the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the United Kingdom for the branch to operate, if necessary, as a local third country branch, and to guarantee that customers in the United Kingdom will be able to continue operating as usual and receiving the same services that they receive today. TSB would not be required to take any further action in order to continue operating as a domestic bank.

For this reason, our customers do not need to take any action. We will keep you up to date with any news in relation to these events."
