About Spain:

I missed the valley I live in, the multi-lingual household and the food (tapas, tapas, tapas (oh, and paella and calçots); but even that is seasonal).

About UK:
I do miss a good pint of Harvey's (though the Catalan one I've discovered is an acceptable replacement), also there's a certain sense of humour and then there's the countryside. I grew up near the South Downs, and they're really something for me.

What I miss about Spain.

Sunshine and blue sky.
View of the mountains from my home.
The fact that a day out feels like being on holiday.

What I miss about England.

Friends and family.
Fresh milk...it tastes so much better than we get here.
Two of the supermarkets I used to shop in.

Well, you can start a thread based on this, if you choose. I predict it will rapidlly degenerate into a knocking thread - "Spain is bad, UK is great" - "No Spain is great, UK is bad". Certain posters can only post bad things about Spain - I admit I can be drawn into retaliating as often there are bad things in the UK too, yet there are lots of good things about each country. If you start a thread based on "bad things" it rapidly becomes a p****g contest.

I don't see why.
Nobody can like a place some much that they cannot fault it.
I understand what you say about some posters and must say I do not understand that attitude whether it is anti Spain or anti Uk.
The thread is pretty lighthearted and there is no reason why it shouldn't stay that way. I never intended or anticipated it would degenerate in a way you suggest. Probably says something about my naivety on forums but more about those who wish to turn it into a knocking thread.
Also plenty of threads start on bad things.
If posters do reply and it goes the way you say I stand corrected and will not go down that route again.

Here's my 3:

i) Good value public transport.
ii) A good coffee at sub £1.30 prices
iii) Got to be the free tapas.

And for good measure, the 3 things I miss about the UK when not there:
i) Parks and cemeteries
ii) Knowing where the decent Indian takeaway or restaurant is situated
iii) A decent cup of tea.
I was going to put good tap water, but realised that Madrid's water is superior to that of London's. So that one depends on location.
The same guy did another Blog about the odd eating habits of expats in Spain - http://www.tumbit.com/blogs/871-food...-in-spain.html - I agree with his 'shopping in Iceland' point

Iceland is now cheaper for most things than spanish supermarkets, so I am told. Never had one nearby.

The person who writes the Tumbit blog seems to have some stupid family and friends

Yeas, I got that impression too. Sun sometimes does funny things to people visiting Spain.

... not so strange or unusual though.

Some time back my wife's niece came to Spain with a friend. This friend decided to bring some potatoes with her in case she couldn't get any to make chips with while she was here.

Hahaha! Spain's like any pseudo-American country, can't move for the McDonalds

I am grateful to the "plague" of English tourists and expats in this country. If it were not for them (and me!) access to Tetley or PG Tips would be more difficult.

Still find Horlicks few and far between.
