On a serious note, perhaps before they arrive go to a local hotel or a tourist office and pick up a load of leaflets and when your friends arrive go thru them all and you can all pick things that interest you

Hi Jo,
Don't worry we're not having a holiday this year, so we have taken the week off, these are our best friends and we all love sightseeing, and I have no problem with taking them everywhere!
After 10 years I've visited most places (but don't mind visiting them again!)...... just wondered if any of you out there knows of any feria's or algun that is going on within say a 2 hour drive from Marbella?

Try www.guiadecadiz.com/ferias. For an inland trip what about Arcos de la Frontera? If you like Roman remains, there is Baelo Claudia at Bolonia (I know you're not beach people but the site is very interesting).

Also - the Gonzalez Byass bodega in Jerez - very interesting - but maybe not for kids.

Would seriously consider visiting a tourist centre. When I go to a new town I call in as they not only have some useful information on places to visit or scenic route maps but often have small museums attached. I usually take new visitors to see a tourist centre near us as it has lovely views over the valley below and downstairs has examples of locally produced costumes and handicrafts.

The Sierra Bermeja mountain dominates the landscape behind Estepona. There are few places in the world where a mountain reaches this height so close to the sea (10km) You can drive to near the top in under an hour.
Take the road signposted Genalguacil from the traffic lights on the inner bypass (Avda de Andalucia), near the Mercadona supermarket in Estepona. About half an hour after leaving Estepona you will reach "Peñas Blancas". Turn left following the sign to "Los Reales". The tarmac road is old and in a poor state of repair, however a 4x4 vehicle is not necessary.
At the top you will find a recreational area with picnic tables and barbecue facilities. There is also a marked path for a walk through the pine forest called Paseo de los Pinsapos. The road ends at a viewing point.
On a clear day the views are spectacular - but can get a bit chilly up there

Thanks Tolly, think we'll do that one day, maybe not when our friends are here, but definitely with the dog one day!

The seirra de grazelema is a beautiful area with stunning scenery. The village of grazelema in particular is a lovely place for lunch and a stunning spot to wander around.Really worth a visit.
