112 equivalent number in Spain?

Hi folks,

Is there an equivalent number that one can dial in Spain for non emergency medical advice?

Kind regards

Asif

Pretty sure the emergency services tel number is the same as in France and most of Europe. i.e. 112
Suggest you learn a few emergency related phrases in Spanish too just to be sure, could be a life-saver!

999 also works in Spain for EMERGENCIES but the question was "is there a number for non-emergencies" - I don't know of one.

112 IS the pan European emergency number.

For non emergencies there is a list of numbers here.

Didn't know that 999 worked in Spain, where is that info from and does it simply transpond to 112 ?

I remember reading it somewhere (but I may be mistaken about 999). Luckily, I've never had to try it.

999 and even 911 are translated across to the national emergency number.

As you know in the uk there is the free non emergency health advice line (111), I wondered if we have that in Spain also.

Apparently 999, 911 and 112 work the same in ALL Eropean countries, it's not an EU directive, but rather common sense so that visitors can just ring the number they know, people aren't always thinking that straight in an emergency.

I believe this to be the case and can confirm that is definitely the case in the UK as i have working knowledge of a UK emergency services control room. The call would be passed via emergency operator as a 112 or 911 to the relevant control room and it is then the decision of that service how they deal with it. From my experience it was always dealt with exactly the same as 999.

I don't think there is one single number which can be dialled for non emergency medical advice, because the health service is provided by the individual autonomous regions here in Spain, not like the NHS in the UK.

In Andalucia, for example, there is the Andalucia Salud 24 Horas service which provides health advice by telephone:-

Sorry the information is all in Spanish, but that illustrates the fact that you really need to be able to understand Spanish (or have someone to hand who does) to access a lot of public services and information here.

This service in Andalucia is accessed via the Salud Responde system, which also allows you to make appointments and various other things.

Sounds like the OP is limited to a health centre with a doctor and probably have to pay for the advice also. Maybe an alternative is a pharmacist? Is language an issue?
