Default Registering childs birth in South Africa

Hi Guys,

My wife is a British Citizen, I am a South African Citizen.
We currently both reside in the UK for now and I am on a spousal visa.
She will be giving birth in the UK next year and I would like to register my childs birth in South Africa so he/she has dual citizenship.

My question is if this is possible to do from the UK (SA consulate or something) or do we need to physically all be in RSA to register the child and get it's ID Card / Citizenship?

Thanks in advance for your responses!

Hi - slightly different, but my son’s passport is expiring so we called Home Affairs in London. They said doing this was easy - send a stamped addressed envelope and they’ll send back a form. Fill in the form and pay the fee - and all done. We sent the SAE off, and 2 days later got the form back, which is a huge surprise. It’s probably worth getting hold of them and seeing if that applies for registrations too? It seems to suggest so on their website:
