Buying a used car Slovenia

Hi there,

I'm looking to visit Slovenia in October and want to buy a car which I can drive into and around Italy. I'm a uk citizen travelling around Europe for a couple of months. Is this possible and what would I need to do in regards documents to make this happen.

Cheers

Callum

hi callum, this is very difficult as you need a residence card (temp) for 5 years to register the vehicle, also to obtain the road tax document which is law in slovenia again you require the card, for insurance you require a tax no. and emso no. which you need a residence in slovenia to aquire, hope i havent scared you from coming though, prob best to rent, enjoy, expat Billy

Might be better to buy in the UK and drive over, as Billy said you need to apply for residency.

I have a holiday home in Slovenia and I would also like to buy a car. if I had temporary residency in Slovenia, does it affect my status in the UK? I do intend to spend about 5 months a year in Slovenia.

you do need temp residence to buy a car, when we applied we had to produce evidence of income to obtain this, dont think it should be a problem with uk status though as many people have dual nationality

Thanks for that. Something to look into!
