Default Stopover before Australia

Hi there!

I arrive in Singapore on the 3rd for a stopover before I go to Sydney. I originally planned on doing the cable ride and the night zoo. Now with this haze situation I'm a bit worried about what I'll be able to do. I have asthma although I don't have a inhaler at the moment but I'm going for a check because I've been feeling wheezy this year. Do they have any idea when it might clear up a bit?

I'm trying to think of things I could do instead if it's still bad. Also does anybody have any recommendations for places that do massages? Somewhere that's not too expensive but not dodgy either haha!

Thanks

Haze may clear up in March.

Not joking either.

For my money it's worse here than last year.

Dunno about massage places. Your hotel may be the best bet but they'll probably do dodgy stuff as well if you ask.
Outside hotels ?? Well everywhere is probably dodgy.
You might try googling.

I'm actually regretting booking Singapore. I was originally going to do a stopover in Thailand but people said nooo try Singapore because there's so much to do and would be safer for a single woman. I've got asthma checks and they've put me on a blue inhaler so it's probably not the best place for it!

So I'm just going to try stay inside for activities as much as possible. Probably no point doing the cable ride now. Or the night zoo. I guess I'll just play it by ear once I get there

It might be worth checking your travel insurance to see if you could amend your journey and get reimbursed for any cancellation costs. Would probably need a call to them as this is an unusual situation where you are trying to avoid becoming ill.

The PSI was over 450 here last night.

But it's just 73 at the moment.

Are a lot of people walking around with those masks? I could kill the people that told me to go to Singapore instead of Bangkok haha

It's an El Nino Year and who knows what might happen BUT usually the North-East monsoon kicks in about December-ish. That means winds from the North-East which will blow any haze away down to the South. And, usually in Singapore, the north east monsoon hits big time. Lots of very heavy downpours.

Just play it by ear whichever month you are coming. Haze is unfortunate but you can always go shopping around the malls. Plenty of other indoor things to do. And enjoy the food.

Make sure your passport has at least six months validity left on it by the time you arrive if you're stopping off in Singapore.

Sorry I meant to say the 3rd of November. I think I'm just going to try stay in places as much as possible. It's really just to chill before I go to Sydney

Oh I'm just reading about the medication part. I'll be bringing 3 months thyroxine and also the doctor gave me 12 months of the contraceptive pill. So I think I'll have to email to check wether that amount of meds would be allowed. Even in Australia it seems like some backpackers are unsure about how much is allowed. Although my friend took 12 months in and didn't say anything and they didn't check

Think you can still enjoy. Plenty of malls. Nice eateries (inside). Bars and, you never know, you might get lucky.

Don't know if this link will work. But yesterday's haze map, Singapore got spared. Lucky Singapore. Looks like we are officially at toxic level up here in Penang.

Can't speak for Singapore but when entering Australia you'll be fine with that. Due to stockpiling the Pill form the UK (cos it was free as opposed to Aus where it costs $$$) I managed to enter with about 2-3 years worth when I emigrated. no questions asked, they aren't interested in that sort of thing.

Haha @ the getting lucky part lol that's not the plan! Thanks guys. I just thought I might as well ask about meds while that link mentioned them. I might still email that Singapore one and ask but I don't imagine Australia would be bothered. It's not as if it's a serious drug. Same with my thyroxine, I'm only on the lowest dose at the moment.

Yeah I'm sure I'll find plenty to do inside, sounds like there's plenty shopping centres!
