Singapore - expat reductions and consequences
As so many Singapore postings at the moment, thought I'd make this a separate thread.
Okay this is a bit speculative but.... it would seem that Sing gov is doing a big U-turn on increase in expat numbers (due to recession fears). I saw a feature on Thai TV with a feed from Singapore saying pretty much that big corporates should be employing more locals.
Now, the word is out from MM Lee.

Usually what MM Lee says, happens big time.
Many benefits for the nation (usual sensible policies from the Sing Gov as always) but clearly it'll mean a weaker Sing Dollar (making Sing more competitive) and probably the bottom dropping out of the housing market. (Who's gonna fill all those new condos??) That'll mean CHEAPER rents undoubtedly.
Okay - it's just my opinion and some food for thought. Be interested in anyone else's opinions on the subject.

Gosh, Karen, I do hope you are not insinuating that the MM still runs the country.
Thanks for posting that - I no longer look on the CNA site and amazingly haven't read about it on my usual Singapore-based site. Interesting...
