Professional Driving Instructor: which new occupation in Singapore?
Hi all,
I am currently a happy professional driving instructor in France and we are moving to SG in April, thanks to my wife who signed an expat contract. Though her salary would probably be enough to allow for our 3-kid family to live reasonably, I don't think I can stay without an occupation for long. Her company says they can provide an EP for me. Obviously there is no chance I can apply for a similar job than my current occupation in SG since there is no race track there. Do you have ideas or tips about what I could do? My current occupation also includes theoretical training for premium car manufacturers sales consultants. Would that be an option? |

The whole island is a bloomin' racetrack.

Just to say Welcome to the forum
Absolutely no idea what you could do. I think I would be inclined to get the offered EP, settle into Singapore life, then ask around, network with others and see what's available. |

Have a look at the Sepang circuit outside KL - they have a lot of meetings and it's not so far from Singapore. Getting a work visa could be tricky though.

Why not go into a small business for yourself and offer training services to executives who want some help at the day track events?
Hopefully I think you were referring to more advanced driver training than learner drivers. Get them to provide their own vehicles and show them how to make the most of them on the track. You could also get some driving gigs ? How much is your current jobs in France paying? |

This is why I was thinking of switching to something else. I also sell myself as a consultant for professional training (aimed at car dealers sales people), would that be something to explore in Singapore? In Europe this is managed through specialised agencies that are intermediaries between me and the car manufacturer. I have no idea how this is done in Singapore, or even if it is done at all. |

Well, because you need a track in order to have a track event, and there isn't one in Singapore. We have more than 50 of them in France, which makes it quite easy for me to work even if I have a lot of car journeys to make. I was. I am self-employed and I sell my services between €300 and €750 a day. I usually work from 5 to 15 days a month in average. In France there is a dedicated diploma for what I do, I think it is not the case in other EU countries.

Suggest then 1 day per week working charging $750 per person and do say 5 people on that Saturday. Get them to arrange meeting you at the track. You fly and taxi to track?

This is a very simplistic suggestion, but fundamentally flawed. For example:
- He was operating similar in France, so hire of race track he should be familiar with- Cars were advised to be of drivers being taught- There are 30 guys I know who would be keen with a chance to learn how to get the best out of their less than average vehicles- Does paying tax really pre determine the making of income? |
Re: Professional Driving Instructor: which new occupation in Singapore?
As I said in my first message, doing the same job in Singapore is not an option. I was just asking for thoughts or ideas about occupations that could be linked to this...

Plenty of opportunities here in automotive industry. Although some may be for Singaporean / PR only, it's still worth looking into. http://sg.jobsdb.com/SG/EN/Search/FindJobs?KeyOpt=COMPLEX&JSRV=1&RLRSF=1&JobCat=1&Se archFields=Positions,Companies&Key=automotive&Sala ryT=9999&SalaryType=1 Good luck. |
