Lee Kuan Yew
 

Following the news on Lee Kuan Yew who has been in ICU since early February. Prime Minister's office statement saying that he has deteriorated and is "critically ill". Well, he is 91 years old, but it's a bit sad.

Will Singapore change when he passes? Anyone have any thoughts?

I know there are mixed feelings about the guy from those living in Singapore, but he certainly had a big impact on shaping the country.

I actually (almost literally) bumped into him 3 years ago. I was visiting someone in Singapore General Hospital and had taken a detour through another bit of the hospital. Noticed that it was heaving with police outside. In I walked and coming straight towards me (completely surrounded by heavies) was LKY.

I kind of gawped and one of the heavies shoved me out of the way.

I really can't understand why anyone could have mixed feelings about him.

He is the best Politician/Statesman in the world over the last 60 years.

Without him Singapore would be similar to Malaysia.

Now I love holidaying in Malaysia and find the people great maybe even nicer than Singaporeans but I know I'm much happier living in Singapore than I would be if I lived in Malaysia.

I respect what the Tunku did during those troubled times but LKY did more.

He died at 3.18 am local time, Monday 23 march
