Job offer in SG - considering relocation

Hey folks,

my name is Chris - I'm currently working and living in Germany (long story). Been working overseas (US, UAE) regularly, but Singapore is a first time offer for me.

I figured out this may be a suitable place to get some answers.

The facts:

  1. Monthly salary will be 8000 SGD - no bonus payment.
  2. Accomondation will be provided (2BR) within office location (Tras Street).
  3. Health Insurance will be provided.
  4. Granted three (paid) private trips back to UK per year.
From what I understand living (rental) consumes up to 20-30% of an average monthly income (depending on location). Can I assume to be well fitted with 8k SGD? I'm a solo male, not interested in clubbing and also not interested in keeping a western european lifestyle.

Regarding health insurance - is there anything to keep in mind? Additional packages that are must-have in this country?

I won't get a car since it's too expensive. Planning to use public transportation. I'm used to Doha / Dubai metro, so it shouldn't be a problem to adapt?

Appreciate your feedback.

Chris

You'll be able to live and probably save.

But nobody here will be able to comment as to whether the offer is commensurate with the position you will be taking.

I'd get more info on the accom.
Furnished?
Secure?
Cleaning services?
Age of unit and condition?
etc

Maybe Serviced Accom might suit you better?

I would second the previous poster. Its not unusual for Singapore companies to be used to paying 15-20,000 dollars a month for a very experienced westerner with specialised skills. Check first that you are not underselling yourself. Three trips back a year is generous so well done on that score. Even if you go out a couple of times a week and take a couple of local trips a year you probably wouldn't spend more than 4000$ a month so there is certainly potential to save. Basic local health policies do not include visits to the GP but local GP's are about $25 a visit so not such a big deal. Cars, maids, clubs, alcohol and kids in international schools are the big money sappers here. If you don't have any of that you will be fine.

Thanks!

Housing will be in Marina area. Everything else is not yet discussed. Salary is fine. I will get a compensation when I return to the EU as it is only a 12 month contract.
