Hostel in Singapore
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the New Seventh Story Hotel in Singapore (www.nsshotel.com) - I'm thinking about staying there but would like to know if anyone knows anything good or bad about the place. It seems a pretty good location & the prices seem a little too good to be true. Any comments would be most welcome! |
Re: Hostel in Singapore
I don;t know what the accomodation is like but it is a very strange hotel.
It sort of sits there by itself in the middle of a paddock. Location is good, right around the corner from Bugis Junction. Raffles Hotel is around the corner as is Suntec. Taxi's abound as do Buses and the closest MRT (train) is at Raffles city. Very long walk to Orchard Rd though if that is of any consequence. I've never been to that hotel, but I can tell you two things: 1) The location is decent but not all that hot - by a highway and a big unused patch of grass. Plenty of places in the same price range have better locations (i.e., north or west a few blocks). 2) The price is fine, but it's about the going rate. Based on the photos and my experiences with hotels in that range... the air conditioner will be leaky or noisy or the controls won't work, the window won't close properly, the TV will only get two channels properly, the sheets will have cigarette holes, etc. Still a fine value because none of those things really matter, but I wouldn't worry that it's "too good to be true." miguel -- Hit The Road! Re: Hostel in Singapore
The hotel appears recently refurbished, so facilities should be in decent
working order. Should offer good value for budget travellers. However, expect night activities. Nearby Bugis Junction/Bugis Street provides decent food & shopping at various price levels & away from Orchard Road. If you are into IT, Sim Lim Tower is about 1km away, down the main Rochor Road. The "steamboat" restaurant across the green is popular. All the best, "G'dayM8" wrote in message news:439933.1034295339@britishexpats- .com... > Hi all, > I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the New Seventh Story Hotel > in Singapore (www.nsshotel.com) > > -- > Posted via http://britishexpats.com |

This used to be where they manufactured whips used in the public

Yes, and next door in the paddock was where they would have the public hangings. > On Fri, 11 Oct 2002 09:06:08 +0800, "JMS" wrote: > >I don;t know what the accomodation is like but it is a very strange hotel. > >It sort of sits there by itself in the middle of a paddock. I stayed there several years ago in a single room before it was refurbished and before the area around it was razed for redevelopment. (That's why it's a bit isolated in a lawn area.) Anyway, it was fine and the shared bathroom was about as clean as could be expected. Yes, the window mounted aircon was somewhat noisy. As others have noted, it's close to Bugis MRT. There's a very good food court in the Parco complex by the MRT. The hotel is within easy walking distance to Arab Street. A bit further is Little India. Orchard Road is 15 minutes away by MRT, including a transfer at City Hall interchange. Higher priced, but perhaps worth considering, is the YMCA Orchard, which has a pool or the Beach Hotel (www.asiatravel.com). Rich |
