budget lodgings in Singapore

Hi,
I'll be in Singapore for a couple of days. Can anyone recommend any cheap lodgings? (S$30 or so) I believe there are a few in the Little India and Chinatown area. Will there be any problems with getting a room without booking?
Thanks

I must disagree. Bencoolean is not too attractive a neighbourhood for budget
travellers even if there are budget hostels. They usually are filthy and expensive.
Last September I booked in to McKenzie hostel along a street by the same name in
Little India. Decently spacious rooms cost from S$25 (fan rooms) on. It was cheap by
Singaporean standards.

You're getting tiring, y'know. I had a great time and it cost less than my beloved
Australia!

Raffi,

Don't be too hard on him. You know that it isn't proper to pick on mentally retarded
people such as horfun. If he get's upset he may sulk off and then where are we going
to obtain the comic relief from?

Hi,

A favourite of mine was Lee's Travellers Club on Beach Road, a couple of blocks east
of Raffles Hotel. It has dorms which are clean and have a/c at night. It's great
place to meet backpackers and socialise. I preferred this to some of the places with
cheap rooms.

Cheers,

Pete Loud

I found this place pretty decent as well. They definitely do a good job keeping it
clean (the no-shoes-in-the-dorm rule helps heaps), and some of the staff are really
great. There are double and triple rooms available as well, though you still share
kitchen adn bath with the dorms.

It's a few (not many) blocks farther from some areas of interest, but the
neighborhood between Lee Travelers Club and Bugis is a good sort of affordable chic,
with interesting restaurants and cafes.

I can recommend the Dragon Inn, Mosque Street, Chinatown. Clean en suite rooms with
TV & air conditioning unit. Electric Kettle in room with Tea & Coffee sachets to make
your own drinks. They do not do food however there is a good Chinese cafe opposite
opens at 7 am for breakfast, and 2 Hawker centres nearby. Stop there every time I go
to Singapore to work. Tel. (65)2227227 Fax. (65) 2226116

For S$30 be prepared for a room with bedbugs. I recommend the Haising Hotel at S$45
for a single room with airconditiong atached shower and tv. Local calls are also
free. If you want a cheaper option the dormitory is $20 per head. You can visit
their web page at http://haising.com.sg and make
a booking.
