Default Moving province to province inland removals

Hi, just wondering if anyone can share any info with regard from moving province to province and inland removal companies. We have used 2 different companies for our 2 moves from the UK but now wish to relocate from Alberta to PEI and wondered whether to do ourselves or hire a company.

Not sure which will be cheaper and less hassle.

Thanks

Thanks Mike, the link is great, will help in making sure I get a decent company if I decide to go that way.

I would choose a comany over trying to do it myself especially over such a long distance.

Whatever you decide, don't forget that your moving expenses will be tax deductible http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/ndvdls/t...xpnss-eng.html

Quite. It's fairly hard to imagine someone moving from Alberta to PEI for work.

I can certainly understand the leaving Alberta bit for other reasons, but PEI? I hope the OP has done some research.

Yeah, based on her profile pic/age group I was presuming they were going to work and not retiring.

I've moved from QC to ON, ON to SK and SK to AB.

I tend to go to the local Better Business Bureau Listings for movers and select a few to get quotes. As it's often done by weight, it helps if you have a reasonable idea of how much you have.

Some estimates I got in Ontario were as much as 25% low

So you are not staying in Alberta? Perhaps you should wait until you have PR before posting this information - not sure Alberta PNP would be too happy if they read this, they could theoretically cancel your nomination if they suspected you were not going to remain in the Province after nominating you for PR.

I'm not suggesting you are doing anything wrong, more that if you are identifiable in any way it's probably better not to be asking about inter Provincial moves unless you have PR first.

Thanks for the comments. Any move else where would definitely be some time following PR if we decide to even move. I was interested to see if anyone had experienced inland moves and how they chose to do it. No harm in thinking of the future.

Not entirely sure, but I think you need to stay in the province that you get PNP from for a minimum of 3 years after PR is granted.

Hi, from what I know there is no direct regulation on moving out of province following PR, however there is a moral obligation to remain in the nominated province and contribute to the wealth seeing as they are nominating you.

I do know that once you have PR you are regulated to ensure you spend 3 years out of 5 within Canada. Meaning I could travel back to the UK, stay for 2 years and return to anywhere in Canada.

My question with regard to province to province moves is entirely curiosity.

I hope not, I got PR in 2011 via PNP then was laid off in early 2013. I'd happily be in Saskatchewan to this day if I could have found work there. However, if they're going to penalise folk for finding a job.

There is no time scale attached to getting PR through PNP. They have to be satisfied though that your intention is to stay in the Province that nominated you... We are still considering our options...we came to NS 2 1/2 years ago following nomination and never had any intention of leaving NS. If we did it would be for work purposes but having spent some time in NS we can safely say that we did try...
