Default Applying for permanent residency after completing 2 years of IEC.

Hi,
I’m very curious to find out if a person doesn’t have a skilled profession but wants to pursue permanent residency, how does one go about it?
I’m currently on my 1st year under the IEC Visa scheme and I will be applying for my 2nd year once the applications open for 2013 intake. If things go really well for me in Canada and I’m settled then I would like to stay longer.

What other routes could I take if I cannot go down the Canadian Experience Clas (CEC) route? Any information would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Options for PR are very limited if the job isn't skilled. The only other route to look into is a PNP, as some of them have semiskilled streams. Ontario isn't one of them though, so you would have to move provinces.

Hey Christmasoompa,

Thank you for replying back to my message. How about gaining sponsorship via an employer? I heard this is possible under the Labour Market Opinion (LMO) but that's only if an employer cannot find a Canadian to the same job. Is this correct?

I know I'm on my 1st year of the IEC program but I like to plan things in the future and there other way to gain permanent residency?

IEC cannot directly be used as a way to get PR. There are no options. However using your time productively whilst on an IEC you can take advantage of other routes.

Easiest way is spousal sponsorship, better start searching for a Canadian girlfriend.

LMO would work, but you would have to find an employer willing to do so, and yes, they have to advertise the job to Canadians and not find one willing/able to do the job first.

Yes, but that's still no use to you if the job isn't skilled and you want PR. The LMO/TWP would mean you could stay longer, but you couldn't use it to apply for PR in Ontario if the job isn't skilled.

No, 'skilled' in Canadian immigration terms means any NOC code that is Skill Level A, O or B on the NOC Matrix.

Can you speak French and would you be willing to move to Quebec? Quebec sets their own entrance requirements for immigration and people on IEC are eligible to apply. You don't need a job offer and the application is points-based. If you're interested, you can check how many points you have (or what you'd need to do to increase your points) here: http://www.form.services.micc.gouv.q...anguageCode=en
