Question Paid Vacation - Whats the standard? What is your experiance?

Just thought I'd ask everyone on here what their employers are like in terms of vacation time. My current boss sticks to the bare minimum, accumulating based on 4%, and only being entitled to 2 weeks after one year of employment. I went to a job interview a while ago where they said they did 3 weeks paid vacation as soon as you started. What are peoples experiances with this in their industry?

None (except stats) in the first year, 25 days, plus 5 days over Christmas and New Year, plus statutory holidays in year 2. An additional day for each year worked thereafter.

Are we talking private or public sector as that makes a hell of a difference?
Public sector workers normally dont get paid a percentage they just allot a number of days based on years worked to a maximum of 7 weeks I believe with the option to carry over a balance of 262.5 hrs of unused vacation.

2 or 3 weeks is standard. RICH is in a university setting as am I. I think I'm supposed to have 5 weeks, but I take (typically) 10. No-one's complained so far because I have the bastards over a barrel.

I've seen similar scenario's in Canada.

2 job's with 10 days and 2 with 15 days.

I have never had to work between Christmas and New Year in Canada.

Some jobs offer additional personal or balance days which are as good as vacation days. Telus for example.

We negotiated quite hard. Mine was carried over from the UK and my wife has quite a senior job so has more leeway. We're very very lucky.

20 days vacation, allowed to take it from day one - plus 5 Christmas days and 10 Flex Days.

Goes to 25 days vacation at five years.

It's one of the reasons I'd be reluctant to look elsewhere right now. My pay is poor to average, but my time off means a lot to me.

One entire month of my choosing after the first six months of employment, plus three sick days per month after a successful drug test (pot smoking competition).
