Hello,

My relatives have filed for visitor's visa. Their application was returned asking for
I-797 approval notice. What is this I-797 approval notice?

Huh ?

The I-797 is called a Notice of Action. It is a general purpose form that the INS use
for Approvals, Request for Evidence, Receipt etc.

Have they previously been to the US and had an extension ?

I can't imagine why otherwise they would want an I-797 Approval Notice.

Thanks Stuart. Where can I get this form from? I checked the INS Web site, but could
not find this one.

No, they have never been to the USA before. This would be their first time.

You didn't really understand what Stuart was saying. INS sends approvals, denials,
receipts, etc. on this form. That's the only way you would get it. Hence the question
from Stuart if they applied for an extension before. If they had, they would have
received an I-797 as receipt notice.
