Re: Any Brits in Virginia???
hi i would love some feedback -advice!
i am potentially moving alone from brussels (originally manchester) in spring.. I am 30 and single and would be working in glen allen... trying to get a feel for the place...and where to live.. crime rate seems quite high...i hear the town itself is quite nice tho.. tho i suspect after brussels it could be tiny ';0
Any advice appreciated!

Richmond's cool - feels a bit larger and more like a real city than Hampton Roads. I wouldn't be too concerned re crime because most of its confined to certain ghetto areas...

You'll have plenty of apartments to choose from, just don't expect to rely on public transport to get around. You'll need to find a car fairly soon after getting here.
http://www.co.henrico.va.us/visitors/ will give you some basic information on the area around where you'll be working.

Hi I'm 37 English (currently in UK) but moving to Glen Allen in Feb. I went to High School (hermitage) in 1991 and recently was back in Glen Allen and was amazed at the difference in the place - in 1991 it really was a 1 horse town!

Re: Any Brits in Virginia???
The original Glen Allen still is fairly small (12,000 pop.), but they moved the post office to Innsbrook so the postal address now covers a lot more of the county. We've been left a small branch office to "keep the locals happy".

Yeh I lived River Run Drive (not far from Fire Station 8 from memory) and it was very low key in 1991 but in 20 years an amazing amount of development - big new High School makes Hermitage look tiny in comparison!
