Support documentation for lost UK passport?
My wife's UK passport is apparently lost in the bowls of the post office. So we need to apply for a replacement.
It is very unclear what documents we need to submit. Obviously she does not have the old passport.
http://ukinusa.fco.gov.uk/en/passpor...-passport-usa/ says
So then I check the lost and stolen page http://ukinusa.fco.gov.uk/en/passpor...olen-passports
So what are the required documents in this case? I should note that she is a naturalized UK citizen.

your previous passport - (if your passport has been lost or stolen please see our lost and stolen page). Please note: if you are renewing an old blue passport or a red passport, which has expired more than ten years, then your application will be treated like a first-time application
- complete the lost or theft of the passport notification form LS01
- complete the correct passport application form and provide the required documents ((emphasis added)), including 2 identical passport photographs that meet the required standards
- send both forms, along with the police report, to the UK Passport Service for the Americas and Caribbean.
So what are the required documents in this case? I should note that she is a naturalized UK citizen.

You cannot renew a pasport that is lost so you need to apply for a new one.

The list still does not make sense. She would qualify under the section "Born before 1 January 1983 outside the UK", but the documentation requested is what is normally expected for somebody who was British by decent.
They do not request, for example, the Home Office issued Naturalization certifcate which she submitted for her first UK passport.

Did she keep a copy of the old passport ID page?

I find it amazing that the official web site information is so poorly presented and incomplete that I have to come to a forum like this for answers. Oh well, I guess my expectations are too high.
Interesting that in the UK you do not need to send any supporting documentation other than form LS01. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAn...orts/DG_174163

I thought I would follow up the previous postings.
Got the passport. Photocopy of the certificate of naturalization was fine. I asked and they happily returned the original police certificate.
Also, we sent it by courier on a Monday. It arrived in Washington on Tuesday. By the following Wednesday, they were done and had sent the replacement passport back to us, and we received it on Thursday. So eight days elapsed time in Washington to process it.
