Default Christmas holiday closure

Does anyone know how long DIAC remains closed for christmas? When does the normal office hours and usual works by COs begin?
Thanking you in advance.

Officially the public holidays in Australia are Friday 25 December, Monday 28 December 2009 and Friday 1 January 2010. What leave your particular case officer takes is a whole different matter, though.

They don't close down any more than the rest of the country, that is, they work until Christmas, work for two days between Christmas and New Year, and then start again in January. This year they'll start on 4 January as New Year's Day falls on a Friday.

A lot of applicants will be trying to lodge applications before 1 January because of the English language and skills changes taking place then, and fortunately the online system will be working non-stop if you need to lodge your application online by then.

Cheers,

George Lombard

I recall that last year no grants were reported on BE & BEupdate from 20/12/2008 until 5/1/2009. However, it might not be the same this year.

Bear in mind a lot of people in Australia take holidays at this time of year. The children are off school for summer so parents like to take time off with them. My boss for example is taking from tomorrow until 1 February off.

What happens if the application is lodged between now and 31st december, will i have to pay the additional fee (conversion rate difference) if they acknowledge on 2010? I really hope not! I am still waiting for my sponsor's documents....

If you lodge online I'm sure they grab your money instantly. So you will pay 2009 fee.
