Default Aussie Dream Over??

Seems the Kiwis are leaving as never before and they are heading home. Wonder who's going to replace them?

More Kiwis flooding over from the third world country that is New Zealand will replace them. There's still 1000 New Zealanders a week leaving New Zealand permanently.

And most of the ones returning to New Zealand will be back as soon as they run out of money and can't get a job, or get a job that pays so poorly that they can't enjoy the lifestyle they have become accustomed to in the developed world.

Hey Buzzy long time no see! If memory serves me right, you went to nz for a while before coming to oz. You may be right that other kiwis will head over but from what I've read on nz websites they have been getting laid off work and finding it harder to find work here and can't get dole unless been here two years, so some may be going home to claim dole for themselves and kids etc.

Is living in NZ really that bad?

I think it's difficult if your'e on a low-mid income, but then that's true of most countries. From what I read recently even those on middle income brackets were hitting foodbanks (cheap food outlets run by salvos etc). Personally I'd struggle there more now than say 20 or 30 yrs ago. problem has been nz went for huge radical economic reforms over this period whereas oz was far more pragmatic and only made incremental changes.

According to the BBC website most of the people coming into Australia right now are Chinese.

British emigration to Australia has dropped 28%.

I wonder if that British reduction is due mainly to the lack of visa grants.

Or to people waking up to the fact that decent housing in desirable areas of Australia is now just as expensive as the UK and that Australia is an overrated, isolated, backwards, melanoma-filled dust-bowl.

But it actually is the reduction of 'skills' that Aussies will grant a visa for.

You're right.

Was just throwing an alternative out there.

Since 2001, NZ citizens are not elegible for Australian dole at all, unless they have PR or are "Grandfathered".

An NZ citizen in Australia who arrived since Feb 2001, would hold temporary residency visa subclass 444. And would have no automatic way to make that PR, except through going through the same channels as any other applicant.

No PR = No dole.

You're in the fan club obviously. I am not sure about backwards but the rest could be accurate Still wouldn't want to live in some british greyzone though

Do they need replacing? I mean, we're not exactly talking about the backbone of Australia's economy, are we? I'm sure there's plenty of other people who can order fish and chips in a hilarious accent (and whatever else it is that Kiwis do when they come to the Big Smoke).

Oh wait - looks like they've been replaced already:
