Smile Travelling on UK and Australian passports

Hello,

I was wondering if someone could help me out with a query on travelling on 2 passports.

I am from the UK but recently got duel citizenship with Australia and therefore have 2 passports. I will be travelling back to the UK for a holiday and am not sure which passport to use and when.

My trip details are:

Melbourne - London
London - Singapore
Singapore - Padang (Indonesia)
Padang - Singapore
Singapore - Melbourne.

I have booked my Melbourne - London return using my UK passport number as i didnt have an Australian one at the time. Could someone please advise when I need to show each passport and what passport number I should have on my ticket? I obvioulsy want to enter the UK on my UK passport.

I am yet to buy my return flight from Singapore - Padang as i'm not sure if i should be English or Australian!

Many thanks in advance

Hi,

Basically for the Singapore - Padang - it's your choice!

It may be easier to check in (with the airline) with the passport you booked the tickets under (UK).

When you get to the immigration control - show your Aus passport as you leave Australia, as you are an Aus citizen.

When you arrive in London, use your UK passport to enter the UK.

However, when checking in to fly back to Aus, it may be better to show both the one you booked under (UK) and the Aus one to prove you are eligible to re-enter Aus (as obviously your visa is now void).

In Asia - use anyone you like.

Remember to register at www.smarttraveller.gov.au with the Aus consulate for the Asia leg of the trip. It also has useful info on jabs etc.

AUstralia requires you to enter and leave on the Aussie passport but you can use whichever one you like for the rest of the trip. You don't need to have a passport to book a ticket, and therefore you don't have to worry about having given a travel agent a different number from the one you are using. Check-in will just need the passport you check in with to be valid.

You will need to show your Aus passport to the check in desk in Heathrow so that they know you have a valid entry back into Australia. I use my Aus one for leaving and arriving in Aus and my UK one for everything else once I have shown that I can legally re-enter Australia

I leave Australia on my Australian passport then put it away and travel the rest of the way on my British. On the return leg I leave the country on my Australian passport and use that all the way through. Never bothered showing two passports to anyone.
