Good call Icarus but please everyone looking to donate blood do the quiz on the website indicated first before going along because if you lived in the UK for more than 6 months between 1980 - 1996 they will not accept donations from you and there are other reasons on there that mean you may not be able to give blood.

Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD) risk
Since 2004, there have been a small number of reported cases of patients in the United Kingdom (UK) diagnosed with vCJD who have been infected through blood transfusion.
Based on this information, and in the absence of a reliable screening test for vCJD in blood, the Australian Red Cross Blood Service has implemented guidelines to reduce the risk of vCJD transmission through blood transfusion in Australia. Currently we exclude people from donating who:
* Have resided in the UK between 1980 and 1996 for a total (cumulative) time of 6 months or more,
or
* Have received blood transfusions in the UK since 1 January 1980.

If you shop at Coles on Friday 13th, they are donating all profits for the day
.
Have also heard that Myers are matching all donations they receive.

The rspca are also asking for donations to help the injured animals and those displaced by the fire.
I think its rspcavic.org
Early estimates are over 1million animals killed.

There was a heartwarming photo though of a firefighter giving bottled water to an injured Koala.
The human tragedy is horrific, but all too often the plight of the animals doesn't make the headlines.

I will be donating 10% of all services for the next month at least.

Not strictly to do with the Appeal, but I thought people might be interested.
The Royal Commission into the Bushfires is ongoing, and the transcripts of the proceedings are available on their website if anyone wants to read about the terrifying events from February.
http://www.royalcommission.vic.gov.au/Public-Hearings and click on the dates at the foot of the page under "Previous transcripts"
However, I should warn you that these are direct Commission transcripts and some of the witnesses are householders from the area, alongside the testimonies from Firefighters and emergency workers. We have been going through them at work, and there are some passages which are very descriptive and could be very distressing.
Read with care.

By the end of July, the Advisory Panel had endorsed gifts worth $266 million. A further $51 million of gift types have been identified by the Advisory Panel, and it is currently working through the administrative details. A new report outlining how funds raised by the Victorian Bushfire Appeal have been allocated and distributed is available on the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund page on the Department of Human Services website.
