can't comment on perth as haven't been there. We live in Robina, have been here almost 18 months and very happy here.
Rentals - vary you can rent a decent 3 bed 2 bath unit in a complex with pool/spa/gym from around $360 a week, or a 4 bed 2 bath house from around $450 a week.
Job prospects - depends what you do for a living, may take a bit of time to get work in your field. Took my OH best part of a year, but there is lots of work you can do in the interim to pay the bills.
Climate- humid and hot in the summer. Winters mild, but can get cold in the early mornings/evenings.. in fact we even installed a heater on our patio outside. Definitely need aircon for the summer, and most of them seem to have dual heating and cooling inside.
Cost of living - again depends on how you live and what you buy. We live comfortably, and find some things more expensive than the UK and others a bit cheaper, probably balances out on the whole.. Rates/elec/water and gas a fair bit cheaper here in Robina. food - meat and vegetables cheaper..
toiletries etc more expensive.. toilet rolls a lot cheaper!
have a look at the coles or woolworths website to get some idea of what you buy and how much it would cost.
Good luck.. sorry i can't help with Perth.

my son works for a painter and work is just so so , enough but not busy-
plenty of golf time.
Plenty of jobs still available in the lower paid brackets but maybe not as a painter.
Rentals 4br 2bh approx $350
cheaper in less desirable areas (that doesn't mean its a bad area)
Climate is very dependant weather you live close to the coast or not in all
Aus.cities. often notice its 5c hotter in Baldivis , only 10km inland from our
coastal position . The main difference in a "normal year" is that Perth gets
35 inches rain (May to August mainly) Brisbane gets 48 inches, is more influenced by the tropical system (Oct to April )
Cost of living is as sa2uk2oz says "depends on how you live and what you buy."
