Sent in our ITA in March 08, received an email last month from CO, stating that MA has concerns about my weight; we had a month to send in paper to back up that I have no other medical problems. Sending in paperwork in on Monday, letter from GP stating that apart from my weight I am in good health, letter from Gym with breakdown of visits, letter from Personal Trainer, letter from Employer with number of sick days in the last three years and finally letter from Weight Watchers. Keeping everything crossed.

If we have to apply for a Medical Waiver, would I be able to get medical insurance out in NZ.

At least this is getting sorted out before you get here. We had this problem due to hubby being overweight and having arthritis in knees. We had to visit yet another specialist in NZ and Doctor and he had to attend the gym to see his weight was coming down. We appealed to the powers that be that seeing as we were already here on a work permit and paying god knows how much in taxes a year that during the next 4 years any problems with health we would have paid for several times over in taxes. It seemed to do the trick. I wish you success. Don't give up - you should see the size of some Pacific Islanders!!

Hey Kags, we applied for a waiver some months back for the same reasons. We put together a 7 page case arguing our cause- that we would be financially able to pay for ANY health costs for my OH; that he had lost xxx amount of weight already etc. We were declined . What they don't tell you is that a medical waiver actually refers to them waiving certain opperational criteria in how they process the applications, NOT waiving our rights to free healthcare. We could have appealed with the residence review board, but they would not consider any new info, ie weight loss, so it would have been pointless. They did say that they would consider us if he gets "BMI <40, with no new symptoms". We are now working on achieving this, but realise that when it comes to the medicals, we will probably be referred on again, but should have more info prepared. It's so frustrating, especially when we have a report from a Consultant Endocrinologist (paid for privately) saying that we should be let in We will submit our new EOI the second he makes his target weight, and he hopes to loose a bit more ready for the medicals Good luck in your endevours, Ali & Fred xx
