Hi,

Currently I am an ICT teaching with 3 years experience teaching ICT in the UK.

I am in need of some much needed information about teaching in NZ. I would like to know how one might go about the process of being eligable to go there and actually get a job in a secondary school. I am wanting to know more about the process and whether it's relatively easy or difficult. Is the best idea to send CV's to schools in the hope they will keep it on record until a job arises, or is it best to register with an agency?

I have a PGCE and my specialist subject is ICT, I have been teaching nearly 3 years. Is there any subject that is particularly short support?

Any help and advice would be simply smashing!

Hi,there are a few sites worth a look www.edgazette.govt.nz has all vacancys throughout NZ www.teachnz.govt.nz useful for all sorts of things,then there's the Ministry of Education site that has the Curriculum - sorry can't remember the address, try Google! There are also Teaching Union sites that are worth a look and specific subject sites.
Have got the email address of a very helpful guy at Min Ed if you want me to PM it to you, can't put his private email on public view.

Hi,

My wife (a secondary Maths teacher) is going through the process at the moment. What we have been told is that the first step is to get your qualifications and experience accredited with the NZ Qualifications Authority. This can be time consuming for teachers as as well as sorting out whether or not you are actually able to teach in NZ, they also set where you are on the pay scale. Once this is done you can then register to teach in NZ and start the process of going through the whole NZIS system.

On the thorny question of getting a job, there are two approaches. One is to go through one of the teaching employment agencies (we have registered with both of the main ones I think). The other is to choose where in NZ you want to settle and then start writing to the local schools. If you want to take a look at what vacancies are available, it is worth going to the Education Gazette website.

From what I have been told ICT teachers are in high demand, so you may get lucky quite quickly

Thanks for that information - I reckon I must be going along the right lines at the moment.

and also STEP 2: TC1 Form from: http://www.teacherscouncil.govt.nz/pdf/tc1webform.pdf

Another question which has since come to light and I wondered if you could answer for me:

As stated on the form I will have to post my Degree Cert and PGCE Cert, Police check plus any other evidence required to check my credentials. Do I first complete STEPS 1 and 2 before I go to NZ or do I have to go to NZ and then complete steps 1 and 2? Also do you think it will be ok sending the certificates via the post or is it just a risk I have to take?

Your other option is to go into IT Training (for adults) .... if you want to know more about that avenue, then PM me and we can discuss.
