Just trying to get some general feedback on the cost of living in Canada more specifically Alberta or Nova Scotia as these are the area's we are considering at the moment.

As someone who doesn't live in either but has visited them, I'd say:
Alberta: used to be cheap until 3-4 years ago, but now similar.
Nova Scotia: cheaper, but getting more expensive.

The main thing that makes the cost of living cheaper in NS is property prices.
If you can buy a house outright and have no mortgage it makes a huge difference to your monthly outgoings.
