Thinking of Returning to U.K. from Canada
I'm thinking of returning home to the U.K. for a few years, it's not that I dislike Canada, I just think I've been away from the family for a bit too long and I think they'd appreciate it if I went back and spent some time with them.
My Canadian husband is willing to move back, although I do worry about how he'll cope with the change. I remember moving to Canada and it was quite an adjustment, especially dealing with the initial culture shock/home sickness/I have no friends or support network here feelings. Does anyone else have any experiences of moving back to the U.K. with a spouse from another country? How did they cope?
I feel quite weird about going back, I've been away for the best part of this decade and I wonder about how much things have changed? I've been back on holidays, but I don't think that's the same as living there.
Int.

I too have a canadian husband and we are wanting to move back to the UK with our 3 children. We live in Ontario. Sounds like we have a few simularities.
I wonder the same feelings for my husband,(homesick etc) but he is willing to move & I figure we will be doing the same things...raising the children, etc etc Just the jobs will be different. Just the timing now for us.
Feel like we seen and done all we can do here, but missing England and the extended family, cousins etc.for my children...something I missed growing up in Canada. There's more to life than just the bigger house, 2 cars iykwim!!
Hope you get there

*Bzzzt*. Paging Howard1944. Howard1944 come in - forum member suggesting they might like to live in the UK rather than Canada. Situation code red. Urgent twaddle about how great life in Canada is required immediately. Over. *Bzzzt*

Trust me, Eric is on your side. He's referring to someone that can't stand the idea of people discovering again how great the UK is.

VERY funny! Well done for finding the post! And 'Goodonya' to Eric - or should that be, 'Jolly well done young fellow me lad'!
PS - any sign of Howard1944 (or is he in the Falkland Islands?)

She hated it at first, absolutely loathed the place, full of miserable people and the streets were filthy was what she would tell her Canadian friends on the phone. This went on for about 2 years until she started making friends and by November 2006 it was me who was dragging her back to Canada!
Now it's the other way around, she moans about Canadian TV and lack of decent clothes shops and has been back to the UK already to catch up with her old friends.

I met my Wife in Canada back in 1994 and soon after I dragged her to London for 11 years.

But do some research into "reverse culture shock" as part of the process of deciding.

I have no control on the intelligence or common sense of people posting here, but have always maintained that a wise man learns from the mistakes of others, a fool from his own, some people are just destined to make their own mistakes, that is beyond my control.
I have studied how people got wealthy and lived meaningful lives, those I have emulated, nothing that i observe in an over populated Island being buried by crushing Socialism, political correctness, waves of individuals determined not to adopt the country's life style gives me great hope for the U.K.
Too many people here fail to accept that the U.K is a third rate power whose reputation is based upon its' past rather than its' future.
Rule Britania, Rule What??
Hell, you can't even make it to the Euro Cup, what a pack of losers.
$CDN now $1.97. NOT $2.50, and getting stronger, can 1 for 1 be far away???
