Try realestate.com.au - click on rent and enter name of suburb or postcode; you'll get a list of what's available, pictures, prices etc you can also enter neighbouring suburbs. I'm in Brisbane so don't know Mascot area

I live in Melbourne so can not say much about there, but yes there is a bond usually 1 monthly-rental. Almost all owners come in through an agency.
Here in Melb it's a real pain to get a house hope you find it better over there.
