Skype is officially banned in the UAE, but if you get your internet through du, it's not blocked. Similarly, it sometimes/often/always works through Etisalat, but maybe that's only after Skype has released an update that Etisalat's blocking software doesn't know how to deal with.

I would've thought you'd need a VPN anyway in Saudi... presumably internet access there is even more censored than Etisalat's?

True sometimes skype might work but not for long.
1 theory is that whatever they use to block it might have gone down and thus Voip traffic is not distorted...
Vpn will solve any issue you may have. i used it to play poker too!
