Can anyone recommend a good hairdresser on VI (anywhere between Duncan and Victoria). After reading some of the posts on BE about Canadian haidressers I am a little apprehensive! But they can't all be bad!
I have my hair highlighted (foils) and don't want to end up with a brassy blonde head of hair
Thanks
Jo

When in England, my wife would regularly spend 4-5hrs at the hairdressers and come home 200 quid lighter.
Here it's 30 minutes, $50 and a touque. Apparently Canada gets the wooden spoon in hairdressing.

Hi Jo. I go to the hairdressers in mill bay called Jada. I have done my own hair, cut and colour for the last, god knows how many years but decided to be brave and treat myself to see if i could get over the fear of dodgy hairdressers

I went there and had a base colour, followed by foils in blonde and reddish brown, cut and straightened for $110. Great deal compared to Uk.
I have Ashley do my hair and can highly recommend her. The fact the she is the 1st hairdresser i have visited more than once in the last 15 years says something.

For example, Alberta is not necessarily considered the epitome of style in Canada, so I certainly wouldn't expect to find a good hairdresser in the smaller cities/towns there! At least not one who has any sense of fashionable, modern hair aesthetics! And yet in Montreal or Toronto, even Vancouver - somewhere more cosmopolitan, that's where I'd go to find something if I was concerned.
For Vancouver Island, I'm sorry

Hi,
I go to Wiink2 in Victoria ( Langford to be exact, which is about a 20 minute drive from downtown). I see Maia for my foil highlights and a cut and I highly recommend her! She is honestly, the best stylist I have ever had, and I've lived in London for almost ten years, so you can find great stylists here!
Here is the website - www.wiink.com
They have two salons...one downtown and the one in Langford. Their stylists book up rather quickly - don't leave it until the last minute to make your appointment
Hope this helps & best of luck!!!

I think in any small town, either in the UK or Canada, you have to do what you are doing and ask around. It's not so much where they come from - probably immigrants from anywhere in the world swear by their own home-trained ones.

hmmmm.... yes, in the entire nation (just a few million people).... you cannot find a "proper" hairdresser anywhere!! We Canadians just have our bowls refitted every few years and hope for the best.
Excuse me while I run my fingers through the various levels of blunt cut & stubble.... I have some karma to send to 4 members!
Cheers

Oh come on, look around you. Does everyone here look frightful? Any different from the UK? I don't think so. From the negative postings, only UK-trained hairdressers are any good. And evidently they don't emigrate to Canada. It's the same in both countries - you have to look around for someone who's good with a cut, and someone who's good with colouring. And I have to wonder what a "Canadian hairdresser" is - mine is originally from Korea and is damned good!

I don't care which country they originally come from. There are some rubbish hairdressers in the UK!I had enough problems in England trying to find a new hairdresser several years ago when my hairdresser of many years tragically died. It took me 12 months of dreadful haircuts to find a good stylist. Leaving her behind was one of my few regrets about leaving England

A couple of posters on this site have recommended salons so this thread has been fruitful

Thanks everyone
Jo

Wonder where the heck you live where everyone - including you, I guess - looks frightful.

Seriously, i have left hair salons and cried
My mum went to one a couple of years ago and called at my house on the way back, i opened the door and just laughed
Didnt go down well. So she came in and i recut her hair that she had just paid an arm and a leg for

.~~..you know i was reading this and thinking..hmmmm well i certainly haven't seen *everyone* walking around with bad haircuts!!!..so there must be some good ones around...in fact at work the other day a woman had her cut fairly short..but was in a realy good style...i liked it a lot!! and asked her who did it!......turns out it is a lady working from home, she did a great job...good colour too, and now that i think about it....i took son to hairdressers a few weeks ago...and they did a great job on his hair.
~skiboy~..they aren't ALL bad..you are right! ..just like there is NO ALL bad drs...supermarkets...and anything else....your hair will be fine...might take you a bit of doing to find one that you like etc.....but you will..

For many years I went to The Gallery, in Victoria. I've noticed it has moved from Humboldt and Gordon to Yates (between Vancouver and Cook). I haven't been since they moved or since I originally left Victoria 6 years ago, so I'm not sure if it's the same ownership or not. I owner I knew was Carl Allan - very nice dude. But they were all very good and it took me many bad haircuts in England to find anyone who could offer the same as my hairdresser at the Gallery (I can't think of her name at the moment).
I have blonde highlights, I understand your fear.
