Sounds like a good plan!

What to take:

- Passport

- Drivers licence, both paper and card

- Credit card (unless you've closed all UK accts)

- Birth Certificate

- Original qualification certificates, for those NZQA 'oh, we've lost your application' moments

- Police checks

- Proof of a relationship (if you and partner are going together)

Re stuff to cancel:

- Mobile phone contracts, bring your phone, bin your contract. Check your contract terms and conditions on the notice you need to give. That caught us out a little, and dealing with bayliff letters to my parents ain't easy from 12000 miles away :curse:

- Gas and electricity - again, give notice and read your meters the day you leave, take photo's even. Check your final bill is against this figure.

- Pay the milkman (he knocked the day we left - good job too as we owed him 40 quid! )

- Phone bill

- Sky

- Internet

- House insurance, or change it to Rental insurance if you are leasing your UK property

- Car insurance

- Gym membership

... and that's it for now. I'm sure I'll think of some more. Anyone else got any...?

Wish I'd done the bank stuff, set up the currency accounts and sorted my tax affairs out earlier - time vanishes as you get closer to the departure day, make the most of it!! LL

Make sure your mobile is 'unlocked' for use in NZ

We didn't we were lucky with 2 of them & they're good to use but our daughter's isn't (had to be THAT one!!). Vodafone aren't been too helpful at the mo even though we've told them that we won't pay their final bill till we have it sorted.

Suggested that we can sort it, if we fly back to the UK and visit our local Vodafone shop!!!

Do you know if it's just a code you need...as I might be able find one for you?

We got our mobiles unlocked at the local market in the UK (it was a former works phone and out of contract I hasten to add so all above board - cost was a fration of that at the Voda shop). There are websites that will guide you through a Nokia unlock for many models - dont need the cables, etc for most Nokias AFIK. Good luck
you may only need the IMEI code - that is given on the Nokia Serial Plate - or try #06# on Nokias. Google is your friend ;-)

PUK code is normally associated with a phone that has been locked out, through not putting in the incorrect pin no too many times.
To make it unlocked from any particular phone company such as Vodafone etc you need an unlock code which is different, as I'm led to believe.
I have a program at home which generates these codes.
As the program is new to me, I'm not sure if it will have your phone but will check it out tonight for you.

Also take a record of kids vaccinations as the school / kindy will want t see them. We got our GP to print these off. We were also recommended to bring a letter from mortgage company with records of our payments to them which the mortgage company did quickly for us, we used it whn we pplied for our mortgage here.
Don't forget to give a months notice when cancelling car insurance etc as we didn't give enough notice and ended up paying an extra month. Also the car insurance wouldn't give us proof of no claims until our insurance had finished.
