Hi, We are relocating to near Pau in about 6 weeks and the usual panic has hit home now. I have quite a few questions - if anyone has any answers this would be great. I am heading over in 2 weeks in the hope of finding somewhere to rent for 4-6 mths until I find a house to buy. Can anyone recommend the best place to start - I have searched the internet with no results so far. Secondly, does anyone have any idea how I can organise blood pressure meds in France. Lastly (I think) can anyone recommend an insurance company for UK cars?
Thanks
Terri

Hi,P:
I'm sure that some people will have more pointed suggestions but mine is that you should hang out in Cafes and Bars and ask people about accomodation! That may sound daft but word of mouth is very useful. Get a French mobile number as soon as you arrive (mobicarte) so that people you meet can contact you as well.
After this: there is a bar/restaurant in Pau called 'Le Garage'. It is a lively place where a number of foreign residents gather and it may be a place to ask for advice etc. Address and phone:
49, Rue Emile Garet
64000 Pau, France
05 59 83 75 17
Then, there is a shop in the industrial estate in Pau called "The Little London Larder" which is as it sounds a shop selling British groceries. Go there and put a notice, read the small ads. Address etc:
Little London Larder
rue du Souvenir Français
64320 Lescar
Tel : 05 59 778 069
Email : [email protected]
Good luck.

Hi There,
Can't help specifically with Pau but with regard to finding accommodation, have you tried http://green-acres.com
Also, in regards to medication, have you sorted your health cover ?
If so, you will need to register with a Medicin Traitant (G.P.) who will be able to advise you further.
Cheers.

Thanks for this - I've had a look at green acres but nothing there at the moment - I'll just have to have a good look around when I turn up next week.
Thanks

Hi, There's the AVF in Pau as well. I've not been there but in theory they should offer information and help to all families wanting to or already settling in the area. They are more focussed on the city I think but worth a try.
AVF Pau
At: Villa Chamoise, 125 bis, boulevard Alsace Lorraine, 64000 Pau.
Tel/Fax: 05 59 92 82 92
See here too for more info on AVF:
