Dear all,
as I will maybe move to Johannesburg for a few months, I am searching for a secure and nice accomodation there.
Can you recommend any serviced residences? Which areas should I prefer and which should I avoid? How to find a save appartment with security service?
Please advise!
Thanks for your help!

Hi!
You would need to specify if you are going to be North, East, South, West of Johannesburg, and then we can see how we can help you. Johannesburg is approximately 80x 80 km...
There are a lot of squatter camps around Johannesburg, so safest would be more to central area of johannesburg.

I was overnighted in Edenvale by Air Malawi one night due to delays... it was 2am in the morning and felt like "Assault on Precinct 13". It's where I first experienced the driving through red lights practice. Two guys in the same predicament as me from Durban when told where we were going... "Edenvale? The crime centre of Joburg!!"

Serviced residences sounds a bit odd - but there are plenty of decent B&Bs around Melville or Sandton.
As stated it does depend where you are in Joburg. Maybe best to find a secure garden cottage (basically a 1 bed outhouse on someone elses property) which comes with a maid. Lots of larger Joburg house have these and you will pay between R2000 & R4000 per month in a nicer suburb.
Nicer suburbs include Rosebank, Parkhurst, Killarney, Hyde Park, Melville, Northcliff, Parktown North, Greenside, Glenvista, Morningside, Bryanston.
Please avoid anywhere too central - Hillbrow, the CBD, Berea, Braamfontein & Parktown are all places to steer clear off if possible
Make sure it has parking because you will need a car.
