as some of you know, i have been having a wee problem trying to find work (cant get a job for love nor money ). i have just bombed the house, so had to be out of it for at least 2 hours. so, off i toddled for a cafe place for a coffee (bearing in mind this is a small semi-rural NSW place, so not much in the way of coffee places). in the window, an advert, for delivery drivers, 2-4 evenings a week, own car needed. so, although i have my sights set on better things, i approached them and asked them about the job...............

'sorry, but i think we are looking for somebody more like 19-21 year olds',...........now i'm too effin old to delivery pizzas at night

so, i've ended up coming back to the house an hour earlier and taken my chances on inhaling the fumes

i am one unhappy bunny...........

Don't feel disheartened by that. They just want tome no brainer kid with no prospects that isn't going to run off and get another job in a couple of weeks time like you would have done

Well, Michelle I reckon it is their loss. If they are so short sighted that they pass up the chance of hiring someone with your life experience you are obviously too good for them.

Something will come along when you least expect it. Hang in there.

oh, i know the reasons why. it's just that after over 6 months of applying for jobs, and any job at that, it's just great that i have been told i am too old for a job

thats what i thought. a cleaning job pays only $17.61 an hour (another one of my job applicants )

Ah, but I said 'about' $15. It's $14.60 (give or take 5 cents). Plus he has to work until after midnight all weekend!

thanks wendy. this place is only open until about 8pm (small place where we live, and if they are not busy, they close). friday/saturday probably 9.30ish. so, it was a decent option as an additional bit of money (or so i thought).

my resume looks pretty impressive now i have been doctoring though for each position applied for. S-I-L says dont send it, just a covering letter and an A4 sheet with just the minimum details on it, advising that a full resume is available if required. she has a degree, and left this off most of her applications.

mind you, pizza delivery place dont even want that!!!!

You just have to make life very difficult for the person who takes that delivery job - fake orders, letting the air out of their tyres, spikes on the road, etc. Then repeat as necessary for each person who takes their place, and eventually you'll get the job!

Do you have any references with you?, maybe send a reference in with your application as well.

yep. got those, and have been sending them with applications (depending on the job spec). i am now in sons school for 3 mornings a week as well (much to O/H dismay). the teacher has set me up with a programme, and i have 2 groups of 4 children to work with. he gave me 3/4 pages of how he wants the "classwork" doing, really going into detail. the children have to buy another folder specifically for this work. i feel a bit bad though, as soon as i get a job, i will have to drop this, and he has put in so much effort to set it up. i did tell him that it might be short lived until i got a job. really really enjoyed it, but this was one of the reasons i didnt want to commit to voluntry work. also, the autistic school would like me to go up there and volunteer, but again, i dont want to commit, only to let them down at the point of getting a salary paying job.

in an ideal world, if money wasnt an issue, i would volunteer until a job i wanted came up. i understand that volunterring could be the way forward, but it doesnt pay the bills.
