I had a wisdom tooth removed this year and although I had insurance I could see what was charged. I believe it was about $800 give or take a couple of bucks.
You will probably pay a bit more if you take into account your first trip to the dentist where you have your initial consultation and they check you out and take ex-rays etc.

Bottom line is - don't expect to have much change out of a grand.

The fee paid to the insurance company is 'negotiated'...the insurance company tell the dentist or doctor what they will pay for various procedures. The cost to the patient is normally higher...this applies to all medical procedures not just dental...it also varies greatly from state to state.

lot will depend on where you live and all that.

I had insurance, but still had to pay $65 I think, that was the tooth and drugs...insurance already paid for x-rays because I had them taken on a previous visit....would have been a few hundred without insurance.

Best bet if you have to do it without insurance, would be going to a dental school, most large cities would have one, shouldn't cost very much there then, but times tend to be limited.

Yup.
Although as I said, I wouldn't expect to get much change from a grand.

I think its disgusting the difference in price. I have been trying to locate a hand surgeon...most in this area will not take insurance cases. I had the same difficulty when I tried to find a breast surgeon a couple of years ago.
